Description

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth.
  3. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  4. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick.
  5. Cut the rolled dough into squares or circles, making sure they’re roughly uniform.
  6. In a deep fryer or large pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry the beignets in small batches for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  8. Remove the beignets and drain them on paper towels.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar before serving warm.

Notes

For a dairy-free option, substitute whole milk with almond milk. For a healthier twist, replace granulated sugar with coconut sugar.
