- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (25g)
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch (22g)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (1g)
- 2–1/4 cups milk (whole, 2%, or 1%) (562 ml)
- 2 tablespoons butter (28g)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5 ml)
Instructions
- Mix together the sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt in a medium pot.
- Gradually pour in one-third of the milk, whisking continuously until smooth.
- Place the pot on the stove over medium heat. Stir the mixture as it heats until it begins to bubble.
- Once bubbling, continue to stir and cook for an additional minute. Remove from heat.
- Add the butter and vanilla extract, stirring until well combined.
- Allow the pudding to cool slightly before scooping into individual bowls.
- Serve warm or chill in the refrigerator for a few hours for a refreshing dessert.
Notes
For a richer flavor, substitute with higher-quality cocoa powder or plant-based milk. Topping with whipped cream or fresh berries is recommended.
