Description

A comforting and flavorful chicken tikka masala with a creamy tomato sauce and fragrant spices, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 g Chicken Breasts/Thighs (Substitute with paneer or tofu for a vegetarian option)
  • 200 g Greek Yogurt (Use coconut yogurt for a dairy-free option)
  • 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 2 tbsp Ginger-Garlic Paste (Substitutes: fresh ginger and minced garlic)
  • 1 tsp Turmeric
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Coriander
  • 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tsp Chili Powder (Adjust for spice preference)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Oil (Any neutral oil)
  • 50 g Butter/Ghee (Ghee provides a more authentic flavor)
  • 1 large Onion
  • 4 cloves Garlic (Minced)
  • 1 inch Ginger (Fresh, minced)
  • 2 tbsp Tomato Paste
  • 400 g Crushed Tomatoes
  • 150 ml Heavy Cream/Coconut Milk (Coconut milk for dairy-free)
  • 1 tsp Sugar (Optional, adjust based on taste)
  • 1 bunch Cilantro (For garnishing)

Instructions

  1. Make the Marinade: In a bowl, combine Greek yogurt, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric, garam masala, cumin, coriander, smoked paprika, chili powder, and salt. Add the chicken and coat it well. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Cook the Chicken: In a large pan, heat oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the marinated chicken, cooking until brown on all sides (about 5-7 minutes). Remove and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Sauce: In the same pan, add butter/ghee. Sauté the chopped onion until golden brown (about 8-10 minutes). Add garlic and ginger, cooking for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Build the Sauce: Stir in the tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, sugar (if using), and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  5. Combine: Return the chicken to the pan. Pour in the heavy cream or coconut milk, stirring to combine. Simmer for another 10-15 minutes until everything is heated through and the flavors meld.
  6. Garnish: Top your Chicken Tikka Masala with fresh cilantro before serving.
