A comforting dessert that transforms stale bread into a heavenly dish, perfect for sharing.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf of stale French bread
- 4 cups of milk
- 1 cup of sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1/4 cup of raisins (optional)
- 1/2 cup of butter
- 1/2 cup of bourbon or rum (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Tear the stale bread into bite-sized pieces and place them in a large bowl.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and cinnamon.
- Pour this creamy mixture over the bread and allow it to soak for about 15 minutes.
- If you wish to add some texture, toss in raisins at this point.
- Grease a baking dish with butter and pour your bread mixture into it.
- Bake the pudding for 45-50 minutes until it’s set and golden brown on top.
- Serve warm, drizzled with your choice of bourbon or rum sauce.
