Description

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 4 tablespoons loose black tea or 8 black tea bags
  • 1 cup milk (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 23 cinnamon sticks
  • 56 green cardamom pods, crushed
  • 56 cloves
  • 12 slices of fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring the water to a boil in a large pot.
  2. Add the loose black tea, sugar, cinnamon sticks, crushed cardamom pods, cloves, and fresh ginger.
  3. Lower the heat to a simmer and let the mixture cook for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Remove the pot from heat and strain the mixture into a pitcher, discarding the solids.
  5. Let the chai concentrate cool, then stir in the milk and vanilla extract if desired.
  6. Store in the refrigerator for later use.

Notes
