Description

Sweet and savory honey garlic chicken is a crowd-pleaser perfect for quick family dinners and entertaining.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (plus more for searing)
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.33 cup honey (110g)
  • 0.33 cup chicken stock (80ml)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 0.5 tsp chili flakes (optional, for a hint of heat)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 4 tbsp cold water (for slurry)
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • Cooked rice (preferably jasmine or basmati)

Instructions

  1. Pat chicken pieces dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper, ensuring an even coating. Set aside.
  2. Mix minced garlic, honey, chicken stock, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and chili flakes in a liquid measuring cup until combined.
  3. Create a cornstarch slurry by mixing cornstarch with cold water in a small bowl until smooth.
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat with more vegetable oil and butter. Sear chicken pieces in a single layer, cooking for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until golden-brown and cooked through (165°F internal temp). Transfer to a clean plate.
  5. Reduce heat to medium-low and add the honey garlic sauce to the skillet, scraping up any browned bits. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  6. Whisk the cornstarch slurry again and slowly drizzle it into the sauce while stirring. Continue cooking for about 1 minute until thickened into a glossy glaze.
  7. Return the seared chicken to the skillet, tossing to coat in the sauce. Simmer for an additional 1 to 2 minutes.
  8. Transfer to a serving plate, garnish with parsley, and serve over cooked rice.

Notes

Serve hot over rice and consider adding steamed veggies for a colorful meal. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
