- 3 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
- 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
- ⅓ cup sweetened condensed milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- For the Egg Wash: 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, whisk flour and salt together. Add the yeast mixture, sweetened condensed milk, egg, and softened butter. Stir until combined. Knead for 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover it and let it rise in a warm spot for 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and transfer it to a floured surface. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush the top of the dough with the prepared egg wash. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack. Slice and enjoy warm or at room temperature.
Notes
For a chewier texture, substitute all-purpose flour with bread flour. For a dairy-free alternative, use non-dairy milk.
