Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic; sauté until softened.
- Add ground beef or sausage, cooking until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in canned tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let this simmer for about 20 minutes to develop the flavors.
- While the sauce is simmering, mix the ricotta cheese with a pinch of salt and pepper in a separate bowl.
- In a large baking dish, layer half of the spaghetti, then add the ricotta mixture, followed by the meat sauce, and top it with the remaining spaghetti.
- Finish by topping with mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil, if desired, and serve.
