Description
Hearty Salisbury steak patties smothered in rich, savory gravy, perfect for weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1½ pounds ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
- ½ cup Italian breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 2 teaspoons dry mustard
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 beef bouillon cube, crushed
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 cups hot water
- 2 beef bouillon cubes
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 4 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 medium yellow onion, sliced into half-moons
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 8 ounces cremini mushrooms, sliced (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, ketchup, dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, crushed bouillon cube, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Shape the mixture into patties, about ½ inch thick.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook until browned on both sides, approximately 4-5 minutes per side.
- Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add sliced onions and mushrooms (if using). Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in garlic and cook for an additional minute before adding beef bouillon cubes, hot water, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and garlic powder. Bring to a gentle simmer.
- In a small bowl, whisk cornstarch with a bit of cold water before stirring it into the gravy.
- Return the patties to the skillet, spooning the gravy over the top.
- Let everything simmer together on low heat for about 3-5 minutes until the patties are cooked through.
- Serve hot with generous spoonfuls of gravy.
Notes
