- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk, warmed
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup softened butter (for filling)
- Cream cheese frosting (for topping)
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix warmed milk, melted butter, egg, food coloring, and vanilla until well combined.
- Gradually combine the wet and dry mixtures. Knead the dough until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Cover and let rise in a warm spot for about an hour or until it has doubled.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle shape, then spread softened butter over the surface.
- Combine brown sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle evenly over the buttered dough.
- Roll the dough into a log and slice into 12 rolls. Place them in a greased baking dish.
- Allow the rolls to rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool slightly and finish with a generous drizzle of cream cheese frosting.
Notes
For a festive touch, sprinkle edible heart confetti on top of the frosting before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
