- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1–2 tablespoons red food coloring
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, yeast, and salt. In another small bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, egg, cocoa powder, and red food coloring. Combine both mixtures and knead until a soft dough forms. Let it rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Roll and Fill: Once risen, roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle. Spread softened butter over the surface, then sprinkle with ground cinnamon and brown sugar. Roll tightly from one edge to the other and slice into rolls.
- Second Rise: Place the rolls snugly in a greased baking dish. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until they’re golden brown and puffed.
- Make the Glaze: In a bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth. Spread over the warm rolls right before serving.
Notes
Best served fresh from the oven. Can be made ahead of time and reheated. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze for about a month.
