Homemade Pretzel Bites

  • Total Time: 74 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Delightful, chewy morsels perfect for game days and family movie nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled; add more if needed)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¾ cups warm milk (or water, around 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 9 cups water
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg (mixed with 1 tablespoon of water for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, warm milk, melted butter, and salt.
  2. Mix with a dough hook on medium speed for about 4-5 minutes until a smooth dough forms. If it’s too sticky, add a little more flour.
  3. Cover the bowl and let rise in a warm place for 30-60 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat your oven to 450°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  5. In a large pot, bring the water and baking soda to a boil.
  6. Divide the dough into 12 pieces. Roll each piece into a ¾-inch rope and cut into 1-2 inch bites.
  7. Drop the bites into the boiling water for 30 seconds, then transfer to the prepared baking sheets with some space in between each.
  8. Brush each bite with the egg wash and sprinkle with salt.
  9. Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve them warm with honey mustard!
