Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon red food coloring
- 1/4 cup sugar (for filling)
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for spreading)
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
- 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for icing)
Instructions
- Combine warm milk and yeast in a small bowl; let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until well blended.
- Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, then place it in a greased bowl. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread softened butter on top. Sprinkle sugar-cinnamon filling evenly over the surface.
- Roll the dough tightly and slice it into 12 rolls. Place in a baking dish and pour heavy cream over them.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While baking, mix icing ingredients for drizzling once the rolls are warm.
Notes
For fluffier rolls, ensure your yeast is fresh and knead the dough thoroughly.
