- 1 loaf of bread (any variety)
- 1 pound of sausage (breakfast sausage)
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups of milk
- 2 cups of shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or your favorite)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
Instructions
- Grease a large baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
- Tear the loaf of bread into pieces and distribute evenly in the dish.
- In a skillet, brown the sausage over medium heat. Drain any excess fat and distribute it over the bread.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, mustard powder, and garlic powder (if using).
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and sausage layers.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
- Cover the casserole with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) the next morning. Bake the casserole for about 45 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the top is golden brown.
- Let it cool slightly before cutting into portions and serving.
Notes
This casserole can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or frozen before baking for up to 3 months. Add fresh herbs or different cheeses for variations.
