Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ziti pasta
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs (for the topping)
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 15 oz drained diced tomatoes (or two fresh tomatoes, diced)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 3/4 cup Parmesan cheese blend (grated parmesan, Romano, Asiago)
  • 1/2 cup fontina cheese (can use grated Monterey Jack)
  • 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese (grated)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the ziti pasta and cook according to package instructions until it’s al dente (about 8-10 minutes). Drain and do not rinse.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the marinara sauce, heavy cream, diced tomatoes, and sugar until well combined.
  4. Add the cooked ziti to the sauce mixture and ensure the pasta is evenly coated.
  5. Mix in the Parmesan, fontina, and mozzarella cheeses (reserve some mozzarella for topping). Stir gently to combine.
  6. Pour the cheesy ziti mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  7. Top with reserved mozzarella cheese and sprinkle with bread crumbs.
  8. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbling.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
