Description
A classic dessert that transforms stale bread into a warm, comforting dish, perfect for family gatherings and chilly evenings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups French bread, cubed
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 4 large eggs
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Gently fold in the cubed French bread and raisins (if using) until everything is coated in the mixture.
- Allow the bread to soak for 15-20 minutes, giving it time to absorb the custard.
- Pour the mixture into your prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let it cool slightly before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
Notes
