  • Total Time: 70 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

A classic dessert that transforms stale bread into a warm, comforting dish, perfect for family gatherings and chilly evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups French bread, cubed
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  3. Gently fold in the cubed French bread and raisins (if using) until everything is coated in the mixture.
  4. Allow the bread to soak for 15-20 minutes, giving it time to absorb the custard.
  5. Pour the mixture into your prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Let it cool slightly before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

Serve warm with caramel sauce or vanilla ice cream. Can be customized with chocolate chips or seasonal spices.
