Description

A magical recipe that turns humble ingredients into a crusty, chewy loaf with minimal effort.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and yeast.
  2. Pour in the water and mix until you have a shaggy dough.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rest at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours until bubbles form on the surface.
  4. Once fermented, turn the dough out onto a floured surface and shape it into a ball.
  5. Place the dough on a floured dish towel, cover, and let it rest for about 2 hours.
  6. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a Dutch oven inside to heat up.
  7. Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven, place the dough inside (parchment paper makes this easier), cover it, and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the lid and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Store the bread at room temperature in a bread box or wrapped in a kitchen towel for a few days. For longer storage, slice and freeze in an airtight bag.
