Description
A magical recipe that turns humble ingredients into a crusty, chewy loaf with minimal effort.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 1/2 cups water
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and yeast.
- Pour in the water and mix until you have a shaggy dough.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rest at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours until bubbles form on the surface.
- Once fermented, turn the dough out onto a floured surface and shape it into a ball.
- Place the dough on a floured dish towel, cover, and let it rest for about 2 hours.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a Dutch oven inside to heat up.
- Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven, place the dough inside (parchment paper makes this easier), cover it, and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the lid and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
Store the bread at room temperature in a bread box or wrapped in a kitchen towel for a few days. For longer storage, slice and freeze in an airtight bag.
