Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large onions, peeled and cut into bloom shapes
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
- For Ranch Dip:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to create your seasoning blend.
- Dip each blooming onion into the buttermilk, ensuring each petal is coated. Next, dredge in the flour mixture until well-coated.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer to 375°F (190°C) and carefully fry the onions in batches for about 4 to 5 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.
- For the ranch dip, mix the mayonnaise, sour cream, dill, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt in a separate small bowl.
- Serve your mini bloomers while they’re hot, alongside the ranch dip.
Notes
For extra crispiness, consider double-dipping the onions in buttermilk and flour. Avoid microwaving leftovers to maintain crispiness.
