Description
A delightful appetizer that combines crispy, caramelized bacon with creamy goat cheese on toasted baguette slices.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 packs thick-cut bacon
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp water
- 1 tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 large baguette, sliced into 24 rounds
- Olive oil (for brushing)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 oz goat cheese log
- Maple syrup, honey, or hot honey (for drizzling)
- Optional garnish: chopped fresh thyme, chives, or candied pecans
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with foil. Place a wire rack on top.
- In a bowl, mix the brown sugar, water, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and red pepper flakes. Dredge the bacon strips in the mixture, ensuring they are well-coated, and lay them out on the wire rack.
- Bake the bacon for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until crisp and caramelized. Let it cool slightly before chopping or breaking into bite-sized pieces.
- Brush each baguette slice with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and toast in the oven for 8–10 minutes, flipping once until golden brown.
- Spread a generous amount of goat cheese on each toasted baguette slice. Top with chopped bacon pieces and drizzle with maple syrup or hot honey. Garnish with herbs or candied nuts.
Notes
For extra flavor, rub toasted baguette slices with a garlic clove. Adjust spice levels to your preference.
