Description
A low-carb twist on a classic Philly cheesesteak packed into a hearty casserole, perfect for weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs ground beef (80/20 fat ratio preferred)
- 1 large onion (diced)
- 2 large bell peppers (green, red, or mixed, diced)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened to room temperature)
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- 8 oz provolone cheese (sliced)
- 1.5 cups mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick spray.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add diced onions and bell peppers to the skillet, cooking for 5-6 minutes until softened and fragrant.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds, being careful not to burn it.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spatula. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 7-8 minutes until browned without any pink.
- If needed, drain excess fat from the meat.
- Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, letting it coat the meat for a boost in flavor.
- Reduce the heat to low, then add the softened cream cheese. Mix until it’s melted and incorporated.
- Transfer the beef mixture to your prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
- Layer torn provolone cheese pieces over the mixture, followed by the shredded mozzarella.
- Bake for 22-25 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
- Allow the casserole to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños or pepper jack cheese. Use Greek yogurt for a tangy twist instead of cream cheese.
