- 2 cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (for dipping)
- 1/2 cup salsa verde (for dipping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and salt. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foam forms.
- Stir in flour and melted butter until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces, roll each into a long rope, and twist into a pretzel shape.
- In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
- Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds, then transfer them to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Brush each pretzel with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- For the dipping sauce, combine shredded cheese with salsa verde and serve warm.
Notes
Serve warm, best enjoyed with a fresh garden salad or a platter of sliced veggies. Can be paired with beer or cider for a snack setup.
