Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (for dipping)
  • 1/2 cup salsa verde (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and salt. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foam forms.
  3. Stir in flour and melted butter until a dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  5. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces, roll each into a long rope, and twist into a pretzel shape.
  6. In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
  7. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds, then transfer them to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Brush each pretzel with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. For the dipping sauce, combine shredded cheese with salsa verde and serve warm.

Notes

Serve warm, best enjoyed with a fresh garden salad or a platter of sliced veggies. Can be paired with beer or cider for a snack setup.
