  • Total Time: 90 minutes
  • Yield: 1 loaf 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

This homemade German bread recipe is warm, comforting, and perfect for any meal. Enjoy its crusty texture and delicious aroma fresh from the oven.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (around 110°F/43°C)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Stir until a rough dough forms.
  3. On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a loaf. Transfer it to a greased loaf pan.
  7. Allow it to rise again for about 30 minutes, covered lightly.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  9. Let it cool before slicing.

Notes

Consider adding seeds, nuts, or herbs for added flavor. Properly store the bread to maintain freshness.
