  • Yield: 8 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

A comforting Italian focaccia bread, perfect for pairing with soups, sandwiches, or enjoyed on its own with olive oil.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup olive oil (plus extra for drizzling)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • Fresh rosemary (about 1 tablespoon, chopped)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the bread flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise for 1.5-2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and stretch it onto a greased baking sheet.
  7. Dimple the surface with your fingers and drizzle with olive oil.
  8. Sprinkle with fresh rosemary.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
