Ingredients

- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 cups unsalted butter, cold
- 1 1/2 cups warm milk
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Mix flour and salt into the yeast mixture until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.
- Roll cold butter between two sheets of parchment paper into a rectangle.
- Roll out the dough into a larger rectangle and position the butter in the center.
- Fold the dough over the butter and seal the edges.
- Roll out and fold the dough several times to create layers.
- Cut the dough into triangles and roll them into croissant shapes.
- Place on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Brush croissants with the egg wash and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
Store croissants in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. For longer storage, wrap tightly and freeze.
