Description

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 2 large egg whites (at room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red or pink food coloring (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for filling)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for filling)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • Pinch of salt
  • Red food coloring (optional, for filling)

Instructions

  1. Sift the powdered sugar and almond flour together in a bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites and gradually add granulated sugar until stiff peaks form.
  3. Fold the sifted mixture into the egg whites until combined, adding food coloring if desired.
  4. Pipe heart shapes on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Let the piped macarons rest for 30 minutes to 1 hour until a dry skin forms.
  6. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and bake the macarons for 18 to 20 minutes.
  7. For the filling, beat softened butter until creamy, then gradually mix in powdered sugar, vanilla, salt, and heavy cream until smooth. Add food coloring if desired.
  8. Once cooled, pipe filling on the flat side of one macaron shell and sandwich with another shell.
  9. Refrigerate assembled macarons for at least 24 hours before serving for the best flavor.

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for up to three months.
