- 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
- Pinch of salt

Instructions
- Sift the powdered sugar and almond flour together in a bowl.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites and gradually add granulated sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Fold the sifted mixture into the egg whites until combined, adding food coloring if desired.
- Pipe heart shapes on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Let the piped macarons rest for 30 minutes to 1 hour until a dry skin forms.
- Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and bake the macarons for 18 to 20 minutes.
- For the filling, beat softened butter until creamy, then gradually mix in powdered sugar, vanilla, salt, and heavy cream until smooth. Add food coloring if desired.
- Once cooled, pipe filling on the flat side of one macaron shell and sandwich with another shell.
- Refrigerate assembled macarons for at least 24 hours before serving for the best flavor.
