  • Total Time: 150 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Omnivore

Description

A comforting recipe for crispy, golden Southern fried chicken marinated in buttermilk for ultimate tenderness and flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 chicken pieces (legs, thighs, or breasts)
  • 2 cups buttermilk (for the marinade)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (for the coating)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, marinate the chicken pieces in buttermilk for at least 2 hours, ideally overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. In another bowl, mix together flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  3. Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and dredge each piece in the flour mixture.
  4. Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer over medium heat until hot.
  5. Carefully add the chicken pieces to the oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the skillet.
  6. Fry the chicken for about 10-12 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F).
  7. Remove the chicken from the oil and let it drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. To reheat, use the oven at 375°F for about 20-25 minutes.
