Description

Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil (plus extra for drizzling)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the warm water and active dry yeast; let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  3. Pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil, stirring until combined into a dough.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for a few minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  6. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  7. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and spread it out in a greased baking pan.
  8. Use your fingers to make dimples across the top of the dough.
  9. Brush melted garlic butter (minced garlic mixed with olive oil) over the surface, then sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and herbs if using.
  10. Allow it to rise again for about 20-30 minutes.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Drizzle with extra olive oil before serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container or wrap in plastic wrap. Freezing is also an option for longer storage.
