Fresh Southern Green Beans with Bacon

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Paleo

Description

A comforting side dish of tender green beans cooked with crispy bacon, onions, and garlic for a flavor-packed experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb fresh green beans, rinsed and trimmed
  • 4 slices bacon
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Rinse and trim the green beans, cutting off the ends.
  2. Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy, then remove and cool before crumbling.
  3. In the same skillet with the bacon drippings, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until softened, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Add the green beans and water to the skillet, cover, and cook for 10-15 minutes until the beans are tender.
  5. Season with salt and pepper, then stir in crumbled bacon before serving.

Notes

Consider substituting with turkey bacon for a lighter version or adding crushed red pepper flakes for extra heat. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
