- 1 cup warm water
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Fresh herbs (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: In a bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Mix the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture along with the olive oil. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the Dough: On a floured surface, knead the dough for approximately 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. Transfer it to a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and leave it to rise for about one hour.
- Preheat the Oven: As the dough rises, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare the Dough: Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out to fit a greased cast-iron skillet.
- Add Garlic and Butter: Mix the melted butter with minced garlic, then brush this mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough.
- Cheese Time: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella evenly on top of the dough and let it rise again for 20-30 minutes.
- Bake: Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top turns golden brown.
- Finishing Touches: If desired, sprinkle fresh herbs over the top before serving.
Notes
Let the bread cool fully before wrapping it tightly for storage. Can stay at room temperature for up to 2 days or frozen for up to a month.
