Description

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1½ cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary or 1 tablespoon dried
  • Coarse sea salt for topping

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour mixture, stirring until a sticky dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for 5–8 minutes on a floured surface until it is soft and elastic.
  5. Transfer the dough into an oiled bowl. Cover it and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  6. Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan and spread the risen dough evenly using your fingers.
  7. Cover the dough again and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  9. Use your fingers to create dimples all over the dough. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with rosemary and coarse sea salt.
  10. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until it’s golden brown.
  11. Cool slightly, cut into squares, and serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For a chewier texture, substitute all-purpose flour for bread flour. Experiment with different toppings like olives, sun-dried tomatoes, or herbs.
