- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Once frothy, add salt and olive oil (if using), then gradually mix in the flour until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 hour in a warm place, or until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Once risen, punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Let the dough rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Allow it to cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
Wrap cooled bread in plastic wrap or foil to keep it fresh. Slice and freeze for longer storage.
