Description
A rich and gooey bread pudding made with chocolate and cream cheese that’s perfect for any special occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf of sweet bread (brioche or challah), about 1 pound, torn into 1-inch pieces
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 8 ounces cream cheese, chilled and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
- 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chunks or chips, divided
- Unsalted butter, for greasing the baking dish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter, scattering the torn bread pieces evenly in the bottom.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until combined.
- Pour the custard mixture over the bread and gently press down to soak. Let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes or refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight.
- Once soaked, fold in cream cheese cubes and 1 cup of dark chocolate chunks.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of chocolate on top and bake for 45-55 minutes until golden brown, with a slightly jiggly center.
- Allow to cool for 15-20 minutes before serving warm.
Notes
Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of fresh whipped cream for an extra indulgent treat.
