Ingredients

  • 400 grams firm tofu
  • 4 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup for a vegan option)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • 1 cup vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Drain the firm tofu and press it to remove excess moisture for about 15-20 minutes.
  2. Cut the pressed tofu into uniform bite-sized cubes.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together honey (or maple syrup), minced garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil to create the sauce.
  4. Coat each tofu cube evenly in cornstarch.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and fry the tofu cubes for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove the fried tofu and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  7. Lower the skillet to medium heat, pour in the honey garlic sauce, and let it simmer for about a minute.
  8. Add the crispy tofu back into the sauce and gently toss to coat each piece evenly.

Notes

For extra crunch, consider double-coating the tofu in cornstarch. If desired, add red pepper flakes to the sauce for a spicy twist.
