Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-size pieces
- Vegetable or canola oil (enough to fill the skillet about 1 inch)
- 2 egg whites
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- A pinch of salt
- 4 tablespoons honey
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- Toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)
- Sliced green onions (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) to keep the chicken warm while frying.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment or foil and, if available, place a rack on top.
- In a bowl, whisk together the egg whites, cornstarch, and salt. Add the chicken pieces and toss to coat.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Add the chicken in batches, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes per side.
- Transfer the fried chicken to the baking sheet and keep warm in the oven.
- In a saucepan, combine honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and black pepper. Cook over medium heat until the sauce simmers and thickens slightly.
- Pour the sauce over the fried chicken and toss to coat.
- Serve immediately, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions.
Notes
For a vegetarian option, swap the chicken for tofu or veggies. Use gluten-free soy sauce for a gluten-free recipe.
