  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Delightful French toast sticks combining the flavors of sweet apples, warm cinnamon, and rich custard-soaked bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz Thick-Cut Brioche or Challah
  • 2 cups Diced Apples
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Whole Milk
  • ¼ cup Apple Cider
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon (for coating)
  • ¼ teaspoon Ground Nutmeg (optional)
  • ¾ cup Rolled Oats
  • ¼ cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 tablespoons Melted Butter
  • ¼ cup Pure Maple Syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Apple Butter
  • Sea Salt (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the eggs, whole milk, apple cider, sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and a pinch of sea salt in a large bowl until smooth. Set aside.
  2. In another bowl, mix the diced apples, 2 teaspoons of cinnamon, and optional nutmeg. Stir well to coat all the pieces.
  3. Dip each slice of brioche/challah into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for about 20-30 seconds on each side.
  4. On a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Once hot, add the soaked bread and cook until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  5. Remove from skillet, coat with the rolled oats and remaining cinnamon mixture, and place on a serving plate.
  6. Drizzle with pure maple syrup and a dollop of apple butter before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, serve with crispy bacon or sausages and fresh fruit. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
