Description
A decadent fusion of the classic crème brûlée and hearty French toast, perfect for special occasions or weekend brunches.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf of French bread
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Sugar for caramelizing
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
- Slice the French bread into thick pieces and arrange them in the baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread, ensuring each piece is well-soaked. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
- Bake the French toast in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until golden and set.
- Allow it to cool slightly, then sprinkle sugar evenly on top. Use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar, creating a bubbly, golden crust.
- Serve warm and savor the decadence!
Notes
For best results, use day-old French bread and consider adding a splash of orange or almond extract for added flavor.
