Crack Green Beans

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Non-Vegetarian

Description

A flavorful side dish featuring crispy bacon, a sweet soy glaze, and hints of garlic that elevates any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 454g fresh green beans
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped
  • 60g brown sugar
  • 60ml soy sauce
  • 57g unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Add the fresh green beans and cook for 3-4 minutes until bright green and tender but still crisp.
  3. Drain the beans and plunge them into an ice bath to stop the cooking.
  4. In a skillet, cook the bacon until crispy, then transfer to a paper towel-lined plate, leaving 1-2 tablespoons of bacon fat in the skillet.
  5. Melt the unsalted butter with the bacon fat in the skillet, then sauté the minced garlic for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Stir in the brown sugar and soy sauce, mixing until smooth.
  7. Place the blanched green beans in a baking dish and pour the sauce over them with the cooked bacon. Toss to evenly coat.
  8. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes to thicken the glaze.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

This dish can be made vegetarian by substituting the bacon with smoked paprika or liquid smoke for flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
