Description
Deliciously soft and chewy pretzels coated in sweet cinnamon sugar, perfect for family gatherings and movie nights.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Pour 1 cup of warm water into a small bowl.
- Sprinkle 2 1/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast over the water.
- Stir in 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar until dissolved, then let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour with 1 teaspoon of salt.
- Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture, and add 2 tablespoons of melted unsalted butter. Mix everything together until a dough starts to form.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a clean, lightly oiled bowl and cover with a damp towel. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 1/2 hours until doubled in size.
- Once risen, punch the dough down to release air bubbles and divide it into 8 equal portions.
- Roll each portion into a long rope, about 18 inches long.
- Shape each rope into a pretzel by forming a U-shape, twisting the ends, and folding them over the center.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil. Add 1/4 cup of baking soda and stir.
- Carefully drop each pretzel into the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon.
- Place pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
- In a small bowl, mix together 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon, then sprinkle generously over the pretzels.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown. Allow them to cool on a wire rack before serving.
