  • Total Time: 75 minutes
  • Yield: 8 pretzels 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Deliciously soft and chewy pretzels coated in sweet cinnamon sugar, perfect for family gatherings and movie nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Pour 1 cup of warm water into a small bowl.
  2. Sprinkle 2 1/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast over the water.
  3. Stir in 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar until dissolved, then let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour with 1 teaspoon of salt.
  5. Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture, and add 2 tablespoons of melted unsalted butter. Mix everything together until a dough starts to form.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  7. Place the dough in a clean, lightly oiled bowl and cover with a damp towel. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 1/2 hours until doubled in size.
  8. Once risen, punch the dough down to release air bubbles and divide it into 8 equal portions.
  9. Roll each portion into a long rope, about 18 inches long.
  10. Shape each rope into a pretzel by forming a U-shape, twisting the ends, and folding them over the center.
  11. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  12. In a pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil. Add 1/4 cup of baking soda and stir.
  13. Carefully drop each pretzel into the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon.
  14. Place pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
  15. In a small bowl, mix together 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon, then sprinkle generously over the pretzels.
  16. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown. Allow them to cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Serve with sweet dipping sauces like melted chocolate or caramel for extra indulgence. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze them for up to 3 months.
