  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine cocoa powder, sugar, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Gently stir in the all-purpose flour and salt until just combined—do not overmix!
  4. Pour the brownie batter into your prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean. Allow to cool completely in the pan.
  6. While the brownies cool, melt the chopped semisweet chocolate using a heatproof bowl set over simmering water, then remove from heat to cool slightly.
  7. In another bowl, beat the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually mix in the powdered sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks are achieved.
  8. Carefully fold the melted chocolate into the whipped cream until fully combined.
  9. Spread the chocolate mousse layer generously over the cooled brownie base.
  10. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, allowing the mousse to set.
  11. Cut into squares and serve, adding extra whipped cream or a drizzle of chocolate ganache if desired.

Notes

These brownies pair beautifully with vanilla ice cream, fresh berries, or chocolate sauce. For a festive twist, add shaved chocolate or a sprinkle of sea salt.
