- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, combine cocoa powder, sugar, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk until the mixture is smooth.
- Gently stir in the all-purpose flour and salt until just combined—do not overmix!
- Pour the brownie batter into your prepared pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean. Allow to cool completely in the pan.
- While the brownies cool, melt the chopped semisweet chocolate using a heatproof bowl set over simmering water, then remove from heat to cool slightly.
- In another bowl, beat the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually mix in the powdered sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks are achieved.
- Carefully fold the melted chocolate into the whipped cream until fully combined.
- Spread the chocolate mousse layer generously over the cooled brownie base.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, allowing the mousse to set.
- Cut into squares and serve, adding extra whipped cream or a drizzle of chocolate ganache if desired.
Notes
These brownies pair beautifully with vanilla ice cream, fresh berries, or chocolate sauce. For a festive twist, add shaved chocolate or a sprinkle of sea salt.
