- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 pound breakfast sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for gravy)
- 2 cups milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gently stir in the buttermilk until just combined.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Knead it gently, then roll out to about 1 inch thick and cut out your biscuits.
- Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- In a skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned.
- Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir. Gradually add milk, whisking until smooth. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
- Pour the sausage gravy over the warm biscuits and enjoy!
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days. Freeze biscuits and gravy separately for up to a month.
