Ingredients
Scale
- 4–5 cups All-Purpose Flour (520g-650g), spooned and leveled
- 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar (50g)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons Instant Yeast (1 package)
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 3/4 cup Water (180mL)
- 1/2 cup Whole Milk (120mL)
- 1/4 cup Unsalted Butter (60g), cut into 4 slices
- 6 tablespoons Unsalted Butter (85g), very soft
- 1 Large Egg, at room temperature
- 3/4 cup Brown Sugar (150g), packed
- 1 1/2 tablespoons Ground Cinnamon
- 4 oz Full Fat Cream Cheese (115g), room temperature
- 1 1/2 cups Powdered Sugar (195g)
- 1 teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine 3 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Whisk together and set aside.
- In a medium microwave-safe bowl, mix water, milk, and sliced butter. Microwave in 10-second bursts until the butter melts and the mixture is warm.
- Whisk the egg into the warm liquid mixture, then pour it over the dry ingredients.
- Using a wooden spoon, mix until a thick, sticky dough forms. Slowly add another cup of flour until the dough comes together.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface, adding flour as necessary until smooth and elastic, for about 5-10 minutes.
- Cover the dough and let rest for approximately 20 minutes.
- Roll the dough into a 14×10-inch rectangle. Spread softened butter over the surface, then sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll the rectangle tightly into a log, trimming the ends for uniformity.
- Slice the log into 12 rolls and place them in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Cover and let rise in a warm area for 45 minutes or until nearly doubled.
- Preheat your oven and bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Prepare the icing by creaming together cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
- While warm, spread the icing over the cinnamon rolls so it melts slightly.
Notes
