Description
A delicious dish featuring tender beef liver, caramelized onions, and rich gravy that transforms a modest cut of meat into something unforgettable.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound beef liver
- 2 onions, sliced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons butter or oil for frying
Instructions
- Rinse the beef liver under cold water and pat it dry. Season generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
- In a skillet, heat the butter or oil over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and sauté until caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Remove onions from the skillet and set aside.
- Add the seasoned beef liver to the same skillet. Sear for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned and cooked to preference. Remove and set aside.
- To make the gravy, sprinkle flour into the skillet drippings, stirring to combine and create a roux. Gradually whisk in the beef broth and keep stirring until thickened.
- Return the sautéed onions and beef liver to the skillet, ensuring they are coated in the gravy.
- Serve warm, paired with mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.
Notes
For added flavor, consider garnishing with freshly chopped parsley or thyme. Cook quickly to prevent liver from becoming tough.
