Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornmeal
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 12 teaspoons salt, to taste
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 ½ medium onions, chopped (about 2 ½ cups)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable oil), as needed

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cornmeal, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Gradually stir in the milk until you have a smooth batter without lumps.
  3. Add the chopped onions to the batter and gently fold them in.
  4. Heat a thin layer of oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, flattening each slightly. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
